Acting Chairman - Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine Oleh KORIKOV and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano GROSSY On April 26, 2022 met in the Exclusion Zone and took part in commemorating the fallen liquidators of the accident Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
During his visit to Ukraine, Rafael Mariano GROSSY headed the IAEA expert mission to carry out radiological monitoring and other expert assessments of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, which has been occupied by Russian troops for five weeks.
Mr. GROSSY also spoke with the staff of the ChNPP and thanked them for their courage, resilience and determination in the performance of their important duties in extremely difficult circumstances.
The IAEA provided Ukraine with various types of equipment for radiation monitoring, including radionuclide identification devices and gamma-dose power meters, personal protective equipment at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, etc.
At the same time, a meeting was held with the participation of Deputy Minister of Ecology Iryna Stavchuk, Head of the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management Yevhen Kramarenko and Acting Director General of Chornobyl NPP Valery Seida, during which they discussed problems caused by Russian occupation exclusion zones and ChNPP.
In conclusion, IAEA Director General Mariano GROSSY proposed the creation of a special working group to assist the operator of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant with the participation of IAEA inspectors who will be at the ChNPP.
