According to the operating organization (The National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology" (NSC KIPT)), since the beginning of the open aggression against Russia, the territory of the institute, where the nuclear subcritical installation "Neutron Source", is constantly shelled and bombed by Russian troops.

The infrastructure of NSC KIPT has already suffered catastrophic damage. The "Neutron Source" was also attacked directly, as a result of which the system's external power supply system and air conditioning system cooling system klystron gallery of linear electron accelerator and building (directly nuclear plant, pump and cooling towers, as well as isotope laboratories) were damaged.

As of April 20, 2022, the situation at the "Neutron Source" is as follows:

• nuclear installation 24.02.2022 transferred to a deep subcritical state ("long stop" mode);
• external power supply to the "Neutron Source" is absent, currently its restoration is impossible;
• operational personnel monitor the state of "Neutron Source" to a limited extent, in particular, there is no possibility to measure the temperature of the coolant at the inlet / outlet of the subcritical tank and neutron-forming target, removal of automated radiation monitoring system subcritical tank, which has reached the lower limit of safe operation for the mode of "long stop" according to the technological regulations for safe operation of the "Neutron Source";
• radiation situation on the site (according to the portable dosimeter) within the norm.

The probability of new damage to the "Neutron Source", which could directly affect the state of nuclear and radiation safety, remains high due to constant shelling by Russian troops.
