In accordance with the Article 24 of the Law of Ukraine "On Nuclear Energy Use and Radiation Safety" and the Regulation on the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine approved by Resolution No. 363 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 20.08.2014, the SNRIU prepared the Report on the State of Nuclear and Radiation Safety in Ukraine in 2022 (hereinafter referred to as the Report).

The Report summarizes the results of cooperation between the state regulatory body and nuclear energy stakeholders to maintain the achieved safety level in the context of unprecedented challenges to nuclear safety, security and non-proliferation safeguards as a result of the full-scale military invasion of the russian federation into the territory of sovereign Ukraine.

"Ensuring nuclear and radiation safety in the conditions of unprecedented cruelty and utter senselessness of the 'great nuclear state', which started its invasion through the Chornobyl exclusion zone, seized Chornobyl NPP and Zaporizhzhya NPP and, contrary to the UN Charter, principles of international law and safety standards, turned peaceful nuclear energy facilities into military bases, has become a challenge for the use of nuclear energy not only in Ukraine but also for all civilized countries of the world. Today, the state of nuclear and radiation safety in Ukraine largely depends on the professional actions of the personnel of nuclear and radiation facilities, who are the first to respond to unforeseen threats and deserve high appreciation and respect for their personal courage and commitment to safety", SNRIU Acting Chairman, Chief State Nuclear and Radiation Safety Inspector of Ukraine Oleh KORIKOV said in the foreword to the Report.

Risks of nuclear and radiation emergencies in war conditions remain high, and only the completion of the russian military aggression and the return of full control of Ukraine over Zaporizhzhia NPP and other temporarily occupied territories can guarantee nuclear and radiation safety for Ukraine, Europe and the world.
