IAEA permanent monitoring mission starts work at South Ukrainian NPP

Yesterday, on January 16, 2023, the IAEA permanent monitoring mission started its work at the South Ukrainian NPP. In the future, such missions are planned to be implemented at all Ukrainian NPPs.

The ceremony of flag raising was attended by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko, Acting SNRIU Chairman – Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine Oleh Korikov and President of SE NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi underlined the importance of the mission for monitoring nuclear and radiation safety at Ukrainian NPPs.

“By constantly being on-site at Ukrainian NPPs, IAEA representatives will be able to observe the situation in real time. All issued caused, in particular, by military actions and directly or indirectly affecting safety should be thoroughly documented”, - Acting SNRIU Chairman Oleh Korikov commented the start of the IAEA missions.

It should be reminded that permanent IAEA monitoring missions will be launched at all operating NPPs in Ukraine and also at the Chornobyl NPP, which is currently in the process of decommissioning.
