As a result of the military attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine from the territory of the Republic of Belarus, starting from 24 February 2022, 17:00, all ChNPP facilities located in the Exclusion Zone, such as: ChNPP units 1-3 (at the decommissioning stage); dry type spent nuclear fuel storage facilities ISF-1, ISF-2; New Safe Confinement of the Shelter, continue to remain under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
The personnel of the Chornobyl NPP has been courageously and heroically performing their functions to ensure the safe operation of the facilities for the tenth day in a row without rotation. Absence of the proper rest and stressful situations due to the presence of armed enemy troops on the territory of the Chornobyl NPP significantly increases the probability of operational personnel errors. Such errors can lead to severe radiation consequences.
Operation of the automated radiation monitoring system of the Exclusion Zone has not been restored. The regulatory control over the state of nuclear and radiation safety of nuclear facilities and other facilities at the Chernobyl site and in the Exclusion Zone is currently impossible.
At present, the telephone connection with the Chornobyl NPP personnel, which remains directly at the NPP, has been lost due to damage of the communication line. Cellular communication at the enterprise is absent since seizure of the Exclusion Zone by the military troops of the Russian Federation. According to information received from the Chornobyl NPP personnel through available communication channels, the safety parameters of the Chornobyl NPP facilities are within the standard limits.
