According to information received from the operating organization (NRC KIPT), the hostilities that took place on 15-16 March 2022 in the Pyatykhatka district of Kharkiv did not result in new damage to the NSI “Neutron Source”.
As of 16 March 2022, the situation at the nuclear subcritical installation remains unchanged, in particular:
- the nuclear installation has been transferred into a deep subcritical state (“long-term shutdown” mode since 24 February 2022);
- power supply to systems/components important to safety has been restored;
- the on-site radiation situation is within the standard limits;
- personnel continue implementing measures to eliminate the consequences of bombing and maintain the operability of the nuclear installation equipment.
At the same time, the restoration activities are complicated by hostilities and the danger of new bombings.
Please note the NSI “Neutron Source”, as well as any other nuclear installation, is not designed for use in conditions of combat operations. Continuation of bombing can lead to severe radiation consequences and contamination of the surrounding territories.
