As of 12 March 2022, the situation at the nuclear subcritical installation “Neutron Source Based on a Subcritical Assembly Driven by a Linear Electron Accelerator” (NSI “Neutron Source”) remains unchanged:
- the nuclear installation has been transferred into a deep subcritical state (“long-term shutdown” mode);
- power supply to systems/components important to safety has been restored;
- the on-site radiation situation is within the standard limits;
- personnel continue implementing measures to eliminate the consequences of bombing and maintain the equipment of the nuclear installation in operating condition.
It needs to be recalled that on 6 and 10 March 2022, the NSI “Neutron Source”, which is located on the site of the National Research Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology" (Kharkiv), was under bombing. As a result, building structures of the NSI “Neutron Source” suffered minor damage.
Please note the NSI “Neutron Source”, like any other nuclear installation, is not designed for use in conditions of combat operations. Continuation of bombing can lead to severe radiation consequences and contamination of the surrounding territories.
