On October 2-5, 2018, State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate welcomed in Ukraine delegation of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC) lead by distinguished Commissioner Stephen G. Burns. This visit took place on the invitation of the SNRIU Chairman H. Plachkov extended to the US NRC in March 2018, while participating in the Regulatory Information Conference.
The purpose of the visit of US NRC delegation to Ukraine is to exchange the experience of regulation of nuclear and radiation safety, discuss status and perspectives of bilateral cooperation. Bilateral cooperation between US NRC and SNRIU has started since 1993 and is performed in accordance with Arrangement between the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine for the exchange of technical information and cooperation in nuclear safety matters of March 13, 2018.

US NRC delegation as well held several meetings with the management of the SE NNEGC “Energoatom” and members of the Committee of the Parliament of Ukraine on fuel-energy complex, nuclear policy and nuclear safety.
During stay in Ukraine US NRC delegation visited Exclusion Zone and SE “Chornobyl NPP” where American experts met with ChNPP management, had a technical tour to the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (ISF-2) under construction, entered the area under the New Safe Confinement of the Shelter – the Arch, had an observation tour of Prypiat city.

On October 4-5, 2018, US NRC delegation visited South-Ukraine NPP. According the program experts met with plant management and discussed long-term operation of SUNPP power Units 1 and 2, preparation for LTO of Unit 3, Post-Fukushima safety upgrades, operational experience of Westinghouse nuclear fuel at SUNPP Unit 3 etc. US NRC delegation had an opportunity to visit with technical tour SUNPP Unit 3 and Tashlyk Hydro Pumped Storage Power Plant located in the South-Ukraine nuclear energy complex.
