“To recognize the possibility of safe operation of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP at the capacity levels defined in the program by December 02, 2033”, this was decided at a meeting of the Board of SNRIU on November 02, 2023.

The Board members heard a report on the results of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of the Periodic Safety Review Report (hereinafter PSRR) of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP. The state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of materials of the PSRR was held in accordance with the requirements of Article 40 of the Law of Ukraine “On Use of Nuclear Power and Radiation Security”.

Furthermore, the meeting of the Board of SNRIU considered the results of the inspection, which was conducted on August 21-25, 2023 by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine with the involvement of specialists from The State Emergency Service of Ukraine, The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the SSTC NRS, in accordance with the requirements of Article 12 of the Law of Ukraine "On Permitting Activities in the Use of Nuclear Energy."

The Board of SNRIU stated:

• the results of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of the PSRR of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP and the inspection confirm the possibility of further safe long-term operation of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP;
• reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP satisfies the requirements of nuclear and radiation safety in terms of safety criteria.

The Board of SNRIU decided:

1. Approve the Conclusion of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of the Periodic Safety Review Report of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP.
2. Based on the information provided in the Periodic Safety Review Report on the service life of the reactor vessel, constructions, systems and elements important to safety, the conclusion of the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of the PSRR of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP, to recognize the possibility of safe operation of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP at the power levels determined in the program by December 02, 2033.
3. The Department for Safety of Nuclear Installations of State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine should ensure the organization of amendments to the license № ЕО 001019 granted to SE «NNEGC «Energoatom» for the permission to carry out activities at the life cycle stage “operation of the nuclear installation of reactor unit № 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP”.
