The Board of the SNRIU legitimated the assessments of safe operation of South Ukraine NPP Unit 1 until 02 December 2023

On 28 of November 2013 the SNRIU Board approved decision on possibility of further operation of South Ukraine NPP Unit 1.

The meeting of the Board was attended by the representatives of NNEGC “Energoatom”, Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Ministry of Environmental and Natural Resources, Mykolaiyv State Regional Administration, members of SNRIU Public Council, representatives of public organizations.

The works on preparation of South Ukraine Unit 1 for long term operation were performed in accordance with the provisions of “Energy Strategy of Ukraine till 2030”. Long-term operation preparation process was several times discussed at the open meetings of SNRIU Board. The last meeting of the Board took place on 20 December 2012. Based on the results of the review of periodic safety assessment SNRIU Board Decision № 18 of 20 December 2012 defined conditions for the second review of issue of long term operation of South Ukraine Unit 1.

 

 

After the implementation of the main scope of the of organizational and technical measures and finalization of periodic safety assessment report of Unit 1 the Operator submitted to the SNRIU “Application for reissuance of License EO № 000064 to perform activities at the life cycle stage “operation of nuclear facility South Ukraine NPP” with corresponding documents attached.

During the Bard meeting Acting Director of South Ukraine NPP Mr. V. Kuznetsov reported about the substantiated plans of the Operator to extend the service life time of Unit 1 for the next 10 years.

The results of the state expertise on nuclear and radiation safety of the Periodic Safety Assessment Report of South Ukraine Unit 1 and comprehensive inspection review were presented by the Director of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety Mr. G. Gromov and SNRIU Head of Department of nuclear facilities operational safety and resources Mr. B. Stoliarchuk.

SNRIU PR Section Head Mr. T. Kozulko also presented the report about the results of public debates on the possibilities of long term operation of South Ukraine Unit 1, which lasted from 14 October till 18 November 2013.

Based on all provided data and information the Board of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine confirmed the validity of the assessments of safe operation of South Ukraine Unit 1 during next 10 years (until 02 December 2023).
