The SNRIU provides state supervision over the state of performance of "hot" tests of the intermediate Spent Fuel Storage Facility (SNFSF-2) of the Chornobyl NPP.
These tests are performed in accordance with the terms of the Separate Permit of the SNRIU dated 25.08.2020 № EO 001002/1/15 for the right to carry out activities for the commissioning of a nuclear installation - an intermediate storage of spent nuclear fuel and provide:
- unloading of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from SNF-1 (storage of spent “wet” type SNF in which all nuclear fuel accumulated during the operation of the Chornobyl NPP is currently stored);
- preparation, loading, dispatch from ISF-1, transportation to ISF-2, unloading of spent fuel on ISF-2;
- performance of works and operations during the commissioning of ISF-2.
The works will be carried out starting from September 10, 2020 at SSE Chornobyl NPP and in accordance with the ISF-2 Commissioning Program, two double-walled dry shielded cases - a large double-walled sealed container made of boron stainless steel will be fully loaded and installed.
On November 18, 2020, the first DSEP, filled with 93 spent fuel assemblies, in the presence of SNRIU specialists, State Agency of Ukraine on explosion zone management, Holtec International and IAEA inspectors was installed in a concrete storage module for storage for 100 years.
As of November 19, 2020, 120 spent fuel assemblies were transported from ISF-1 to ISF-2.
