On July 6, 2017, Acting Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Borys Stoliarchuk handed in a license on the construction and commissioning of the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF) to the President of the State Enterprise «National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” Yury Nedashkovsky.
«Currently, the operator has fulfilled all conditions for the safe construction and commissioning of CSFSF, which are provided by the nuclear legislation. The amount of work, which has been done, is extremely large. In order to build up the energy independence of our state and save budget funds, the SNRIU, in accordance with the established procedure, has decided to grant the license on construction and commissioning of CSFSF ", - said Borys Stoliarchuk. According to the Acting Chairman, Holtec International technologies, which will be used for the construction of the CSFSF, have already confirmed their reliability and safety. Sweden, Belgium and Spain have already had an opportunity to see it in their own experience.
Yuriy Nedashkovsky, the President of the State Enterprise «National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom”, thanked the staff of the SNRIU and the State Enterprise “State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety” (SSTC NRS) for effective cooperation.
«We have been moving to this day for more than 12 years. The work, which has been done, is really large. There were many obstacles on our way too. We have overcome duly all challenges like the legislative resolution of all issues concerning the construction of a new nuclear facility of national standing, land issue resolution, searching for reliable, safe technologies, licensing process. At the moment the State Enterprise «National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” faces a new strategically important task for the state - the completion of the construction of the CSFSF and its further operation in order to ensure the energy independence of Ukraine", - summed up the President of the State Enterprise «National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom”.
