State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine disproves false information spread by some media concerning possible radioactive contamination due to explosion at the Donetsk State Chemical Plant. According to data provided by the SNRIU South-Eastern State Inspection on Nuclear and Radiation Safety, explosion occurred at a distance of approximately 2 kilometers from the storage that luckily did not sustain any damage. Put into operation in 1962, the facility was used as a burial of radioactive waste from enterprises of Donetsk and Lugansk regions during 1963-1966. Nowadays spent ionizing radiation sources, generally containing radium and cesium radionuclides, are located there. Being a part of the Ukrainian State Corporation “Radon”, the storage is situated in the territory that is temporally beyond the bounds of the SNRIU control.
