Taking into account positive results of the state nuclear and radiation safety review of the safety justification documents, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine permitted loading of the first nuclear fuel assemblies produced by Westinghouse into the reactor cores of Units 1 and 4 of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” carries out activities for the use of nuclear fuel produced by Westinghouse at Ukrainian NPPs in order to diversify the nuclear fuel suppliers and avoid the dependence on the monopoly supplier.

At present, the Westinghouse nuclear fuel has already been in operation in the mixed cores of Units 2 and 3 of the South-Ukrainian NPP and Unit 5 of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, and is being prepared for loading into the reactor core of Zaporizhzhya NPP Unit 3.
