On July 1, 2020, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine has issued a separate permit № EO 001018/2/15 for the physical start up of a nuclear subcritical installation  Neutron Source to the National Science Center «Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology» (NSC KIPT).

Nuclear subcritical installation  Neutron Source is designed for scientific and applied research in the field of nuclear physics, radiation materials science, biology, chemistry and for the production of medical radioisotopes and based on a subcritical assembly controlled by a linear electron accelerator. This Neutron Source is created on the basis of the National Science Center «Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology» in accordance with the Washington Summit agreements set out in the Joint Statement of the Presidents of Ukraine in April 2010, and the Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation on nuclear safety, signed on September 26, 2011. The implementation of the project is carried out with the support of the Argon National Laboratory of the United States.

The decision to issue this separate permit has been made by the SNRIU after getting а positive results of the assessment of the application documents with supporting materials and the inspection survey of the NSC KIPT, conducted from 10 to 12 June 2020.

This separate permit is the second one out of three provided by the terms of the License № EO 001018 for a construction and commissioning of the Neutron Source issued by the SNRCU on 10 October 2013.

Remind, that on April 12, 2019, the SNRIU issued a separate permit for the first delivery of nuclear fuel for nuclear subcritical installation  Neutron Source.
