On 30 April 2014, close to the village Strointsy, Novoselytsk district of Chernovtsy region the Security Service of Ukraine revealed in transport vehicle a source of ionizing radiation (IRS).

According to the results of preliminary investigation, carried out by the experts of Chernovtsy region Sanitary Service the following was stated:

           exposure dose at a distance of 0.1 meter from the package with the IRS is 0.96 mSv / h, which is 5 - 7 times higher than the natural background, and at a distance of 1 meter - 0.14 mSv / h, ie, at the level of natural background,

           density of β-particles at a distance of 0.02 - 0.03 meters - is 98 parts / min. cm², which is more than three times the permissible level.

At present, in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 02 June 2003 № 813 «On Interaction procedure of state executive authorities and legal entities that perform activity in the area of nuclear energy use in case of reveal of radioactive materials in illicit trafficking» mentioned IRS was transferred to the key expert organization – Institute of Nuclear Research of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to define the category of nuclear material (low-enriched uranium, highly-enriched uranium, plutonium) and/or type of radioactive material without any damage of package and containers.
