During the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group's (ENSREG) annual conference in Brussels this week the Office for Nuclear Regulation’s (ONR) Chief Executive and Chief Nuclear Inspector Mark Foy met with the head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) Oleh Korikov.  This was reported by the Office for Nuclear Regulation's.

Mark said: “The ENSREG conference provided a great opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Korikov the head of the SNRIU. The meeting allowed us to further strengthen the relationship between our two organisations around nuclear safety, which is especially important during these challenging times.”

Mark and Mr. Korikov explored opportunities to provide support to SNRIU and Ukraine in relation to its nuclear facilities and their continued safety during the ongoing conflict.

They also discussed current experiences of spent fuel storage in Ukraine, nuclear new build and the regulation of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies in the UK, and the status of each country’s respective operating fleets and the challenges they face.
