NSI “Neutron Source”, Information Update (11.03.2022)

As reported by the SNRIU, yesterday, in the evening of 10 March 2022, the aggressor country bombed a research nuclear installation one more time: the nuclear subcritical installation “Neutron Source”, based on a subcritical assembly driven by a linear electron accelerator (hereinafter - NSI “Neutron Source” located on the site of the National Research Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” (Kharkiv).

According to the updated information, the building structures of the NSI “Neutron Source” have suffered minor damages. Power supply to the systems/components important to safety has been restored. Damages, which would affect the state of nuclear and radiation safety have not been detected. The radiation situation on the site is within the standard limits.

The operating organization personnel continues eliminating the consequences of the bombing.

It needs to be pointed out that the NSI “Neutron Source”, like any other nuclear installation, is not designed for use in the conditions of combat operations. Continuation of the bombing can lead to severe radiation consequences and contamination of the surrounding area.

Reminder: since 24 February 2022, the NSI “Neutron Source” has been transferred into a deep subcritical state.
