From November 6 to 10, 2023, the IAEA medical and coordination assistance mission took place in Ukraine, which is a continuation of the IAEA work to provide assistance to Ukraine in maintaining the nuclear safety and security. The mission complemented previous activities the IAEA undertook to assess the needs of medical services for the personnel of nuclear installations, including Chornobyl NPP, and to strengthen the capacity of local medical hospitals in the locations of NPP personnel and other nuclear facilities to provide timely medical assistance in appropriate cases of daily routine and in response to emergency situations.
A team of IAEA experts visited the city hospital in Slavutych, the Slavutsky local health center, the industrial site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the exclusion zone, the health care center, the station staff's inter-shift rest areas, got acquainted with the sanitary and living conditions of the workers, the needs and challenges that have arisen since the transition of the ChNPP to a shift mode of operation, met with the management of the ChNPP and DAZV to discuss the issue of coordination of cooperation according to jointly defined priorities.
