From 25th of November till 25th of December 2020 State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine is holding a public discussion on the possibility of continuing operation of a nuclear installation - power unit №5 of Zaporizhzhya NPP in order to involve the public in discussions on decision-making that may affect the environment, providing free access to information on the activities of executive bodies.
Pursuant to requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Permitting Activities in the Sphere of Nuclear Energy Use”, the operating organization of NNEGC Energoatom submitted to the SNRIU the Application for Amendments / Reissuance of the EO Series 000196 License for the Right to Operate Activities NPP” in connection with ensuring safe long-term operation of Unit №5 of Zaporizhzhya NPP at energy capacity levels after reaching the service life established by the project.
In the Report on Periodic Safety Reassessment (RPS) of Unit №5 of Zaporizhzhya NPP, which according to the legislation is a mandatory appendix to the Application, the operating organization substantiates the possibility of safe long-term operation of the unit (with materials of complex safety analysis).
The SNRIU has completed the state examination of nuclear and radiation safety of materials of the Zaporizhzhya NPP Unit №5 (the conclusion of the state examination can be found at the link).
In order to verify the completeness and accuracy of the information contained in the documents submitted by NNEGC Energoatom, to determine the applicant's ability to comply with the conditions of the declared activity, established by the rules and regulations on nuclear and radiation safety in the period from 9 to 13 November 2020 Zaporizhzhya NPP was inspected.
