On December 3, 2020, an online meeting was held with representatives of the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Agency (DSA) with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Kyiv.
The parties signed a Protocol on the practical implementation of procedures for prompt notification of nuclear accidents and exchange of information on nuclear installations between the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine and the Norwegian Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety.
The importance of this Protocol, as noted by the Parties, is the need to ensure:
• practical implementation of procedures for prompt notification of nuclear accidents and exchange of information on nuclear installations under the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway on operational notification of nuclear accidents and exchange of information on nuclear installations of September 28, 1994;
• preparedness for incidents and emergencies, taking into account changing global challenges and the emergence of new technologies;
• further cooperation in order to minimize the consequences of transboundary movement of radioactive substances;
• increased preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies and incidents at both the regional and international levels, including emergencies that don’t pose a high radiological hazard, but are of increased interest/concern to the public.
Head of the SNRCU - Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety Hrihorii Plachkov presented brief information on the main achievements and changes in the system of nuclear and radiation safety regulation in Ukraine.
Also, in his speech, Hrihorii Plachkov reviewed the results of the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects between the bodies and outlined the main priority areas for future cooperation.
